Las Islitas Seafood & Mexican Restaurant on South Western Ave is a spot where the focus is firmly on hearty, seafood-centric Mexican fare with a Tex-Mex twist. It’s the kind of place where portion sizes surprise you—most dishes are generous enough to share between two or three people, making it practical for groups or hungry eaters looking for value alongside flavor.

The restaurant’s atmosphere leans lively and community-oriented. Often accompanied by live music or karaoke nights, it’s a venue where the sounds of guitars and singers fill the space, creating an energetic backdrop rather than a quiet dining room. This makes it a good choice for those who enjoy their meals with some local entertainment, though it might not be ideal for intimate conversations or business meetings.

The menu highlights a variety of seafood cocktails, langostinos, and fried fish dishes spiced up with classic Mexican flavors — think of plates like Mojarra Frita A la Diabla or Carne Asada Con Camarones A la Plancha. There are also satisfying combos featuring tacos, rice, beans, and salad, catering to both casual diners and families (with a kids’ menu rounding things out). Their cocktail selection, including Michelada Mix and Margarita, pairs well with the flavor profile and brings a local flair to the drinks.

Service can be a mixed experience; communication might feel a little challenging if you don’t speak Spanish, but the staff generally make guests feel welcome and do their best to assist. Evening visits tend to be the liveliest, especially when the band or karaoke kicks in, capturing the social spirit of the place.

Located in a diverse neighborhood of Chicago, Las Islitas offers more than just a meal—it provides a setting where music, community, and bold Mexican-Seafood cuisine meet. It will especially appeal to those who enjoy generous plates full of flavor and an upbeat dining vibe that echoes the local culture.

So delicious. There is mainly seafood here, cocktails/beer as well. There is a bar. No one spoke English but we were able to communicate with our server, she was very nice!

The mariscos is the best in comparison to similar mariscos restaurants. I particularly love their Langostinos. The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is because the often have live music or karaoke and it can be very difficult to have a conversation. Also, the service is slow but the food keeps me going back.

We found this place by happenstance. We ordered from the menu, each dish was enough to feed two or three people, LOL. You definitely get a lot of food for what you pay. After that, while we were eating, some musicians came in and serenaded us. The guitar playing was fantastic, and the young man had a nice voice. I will have to complement the older gentleman who was about as big around as my little finger, LOL he had one of the strongest voices I've ever heard and was it beautiful. I will post a snippet of that serenade on Google guides. The main reason we were there though was to eat, and man, did we eat! And took a ton of food home. Extremely delicious, some of the best I've ever had.
